Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk, York 2014

Earlier today we volunteered to help out at the Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk in York!

We were tasked with assisting those taking part in the sponsored walk by directing them along the way, making sure that no one got lost during the 6 mile route which took in sights like the Minster and Clifford’s Tower. It was a really busy morning with various activities and events happening throughout the city, and so our job was important to make sure that we got all walkers heading in the right direction and to the finish line safely – so that they could collect their much deserved medals at the end!

There were about 500 sponsored walkers in total which we understand is at least double that of last year, which was great news! Each walker and volunteer has helped raise much needed funds for further research into dementia as well as care for those living with the disease.

A very big well done to all those who took part, to our fellow volunteers and to those from the Alzheimer’s Society who made the day possible. A special thank you also to the lady who shared her chocolates with us on the way round!
